Abstract

1,242,140. Constant-force spring supports. BRITISH INDUSTRIAL ENG. CO. (STAFFS) Ltd. 31 Dec., 1969 [20 Dec., 1968], No. 60832/68. Heading F2S. In a spring-and-lever type constant force support for piping, one end 16 of the spring is secured to a fixed part 10 to which the lever 13 is pivoted. The connection between the lever and the spring is made by a link 27 pivoted at 51 to the lever and at 28 to a drawbar 20. The pivotal connection 28 is required (a) to be disposed between the fixed spring end 16 and the lever and (b) to be constrained so that its only permitted translational movement is in a rectilinear path coincident with the spring axis. The pivot 28 is a pin passing through the link 27 and through a clevis formation 24, Fig. 3, at the end of the draw bar. The clevis has a cylindrical periphery and the guide means for permitting only rectilinear movement are angle section members 29 secured to the fixed part 10. The sliding surfaces 30 of these angle section members are preferably PTFE coated. The support incorporates means according to Specification 1,240,670 for varying the distance between the pivot 51 and the lever fulcrum. As shown, this means 41, 43, 47 is located below the link 27, but in Fig. 4 (not shown) it is located above it. Means according to Specification 1,238,481 may be provided for varying the load arm of the lever and according to Specification 1,208,132 for changing the position of the lever fulcrum.
