Abstract

1,241,460. Plucking poultry. COPE, WHELON & CO. Ltd. 4 Feb., 1970 [24 Dec., 1968], No. 61406/68. Heading A2U. In a poultry plucking machine comprising a pair of spaced bodies 10 each carrying a plurality of rotary discs 11 with flexible plucking fingers 12, the bodies 10 are reciprocated towards and away from each other during the passage of a bird being plucked. As shown, one end of each body 10 is supported by a column 13 carried by a sleeve 14 which is reciprocable on a bar 15 by a crank mechanism 16 driven by an electric motor or by a reciprocating air piston arrangement. The other end of each body 10 is mounted on a fixed support that allows pivotal movement about a vertical axis. Alternatively, both ends of the bodies 10 may be reciprocated, either in or out of phase wth each other.
