Abstract
1,240,961. Riveting. BRACKER A.G. 7 April, 1970 [11 April, 1969], No. 16434/70. Heading B3U. An apparatus for forming a head on a rivet 8, Fig. 1, comprises a rotatable driving shaft 1 cooperating with a rotatable crank 4 carrying a rivet set 6, the axis of rotation Y of the crank 4 being inclined with the axis of rotation X of the driving shaft 1 such that in operation the crank axis Z of the crank 4 is in one position substantially coaxial with and in another position intersects at the rivet 8 with the axis X of the shaft I. The crank 4 is mounted in bearings 2, 3 which are connected to the shaft 1 so that they are revolved when the shaft 1 is rotated. The shaft 1 and crank 4 are rotated at the same or a different speed and direction. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, a drive shaft 16 carries the crank formed by an inclined shaft 12 and a rivet set support 21 for the rivet set 6. Upon rotation of the spindle 16, a gear 10 on the shaft 12 is moved around a gear ring 11 so that the shaft 12 traces a hypocycloid and the rivet set axis continuously changes. The rivet set 6 is prevented from rotating about its own axis by a pin 13 engaging in an aperture 14 in a stationary sleeve 15. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a driven spindle (26) has a bore in which a gear (33) connected with the spindle (26), engages a gear (31) which is connected to a shaft (27) inclined to the axis of rotation of the spindle (26). A rivet set support (28) is connected to the lower end of the shaft (27).
