Abstract

1,240,851. Shaping pottery. NETZSCH MASCHINENFABRIK GEB. 12 Sept., 1968, No. 43447/68. Heading C1H. An insert 54 of the charging table 50 is raised by a piston 80 to press a ceramic blank 56 on to one of the four squeezing plates 78 of the squeezing table 62. The squeezing table 62 is then rotated by 90 degrees to position the squeezing plate 78 with the blank 56 above the squeezing tool 82 which is rotated by the motor 84 while the spindle 64 with the squeezing plate 78 is rotated at a lower speed by the motor 70. The cam disc 90 lifts the carriage 88 until the squeezing tool 82 has deformed the disc 56 to the required thickness and diameter. A further 90 degrees rotation of the squeezing table passes the blank to a loosening device and after a further 90 degrees rotation the loosened blank is held over an empty mould on a swing (or pendulum tray) 26 which together with the chains 24 forms a conveyer. A spindle block 126 is raised by a cam disc 130 to lift a gypsum mould 30 from the conveyer on a lifter 140 (Fig. 3A, not shown) to receive the blank 56 and is then lowered to replace the mould in a ring of the conveyer swing. The conveyer is advanced by a distance corresponding to the length of one swing so that when the spindle block 126 is again raised the mould is lifted by the lifter 136 to press the blank against the stationary pressurizing plate 102. The spindle block is lowered and the conveyer advanced to move the blank to below a rotating forming tool 104. On raising the spindle block 126, the mould is raised on the rotating spindle head 132 (Fig. 3A) into the action of the forming tool 104 which rolls the rotating blank. The forming tool can be tilted about the axis 118 by the cam disc 124 via the lever 122, the link 120 and the arm 112. The drives are synchronized by using the same shaft 34 to drive the cams 124 and 130 via a gear 96, the cam 90 via a chain drive to a shaft 94, and the conveyer via a pawl 44 and ratchet 46 operated by the cam 36 and by driving the squeezing table 62 and the charging table 50 via the gear 60 and the wheel 18 which is turned by the conveyer chain 24. Two lines of production, one on each side of the conveyer are operated.
