Abstract

124,074. Phillips, E. B. March 27, 1918. Carpet and like sweepers.-An appliance for sweeping surfaces and gathering fragments therefrom, which may be used as a crumb scoop or for cleaning carpets, comprises a brush carried coaxially with the supporting wheels A and rotated backwards so as to sweep the fragments &c. into a following receptacle Q. The wheels A are each secured to a spindle B passing through a sleeve C carrying a pinion F and a pawl carrier G of a one-way drive H. An annular wheel K having internal teeth is secured to one of the wheels A which drives through gearing the pinion F connected by the sleeve C and the elements G, H to the brush. Fig. 2 shows a form of the sweeper for use as a crumb scoop which is provided with a central handle R for moving the scoop over the surface to be cleaned and a hinged lid q for the receptacle. The bristles or other sweeping elements are secured to a plurality of strips P carried by a pair of spiders N.
