Abstract
1,240,577. Anodized aluminium printing plates; cleaning Al. NAMEPLATES & DIALS PTY, Ltd. Oct.27, 1969, No. 52597/69. Headings C7B and C7E. [Also in Division G2] An anodized Al lithographic printing plate is produced by (A) cleaning and etching the plate in an aqueous solution containing 1À5-10% w/v of an alkali metal hydroxide e. g. NaOH, with or without up to 10% w/v of a nitrate or fluoride e. g. NaNO 3 , and/or a wetting agent, at 100-180‹ F. for ¢-10 minutes; (B) etching in an aqueous solution containing 1-10% w/v of an inorganic fluoride e.g. ammonium bifluoride, with or without up to 10% v/v of an inorganic acid e. g. HNO 3 or HF, and/or a wetting agent, at a temperature up to 160‹ F. for ¢-10 minutes; (C) anodizing the etched plate in an aqueous electrolyte containing 3-20% v/v H 2 SO 4 and/or H 3 PO 4 at 65-85‹F., a current density 8-12 A.S. F. and for 5-30 minutes; and (D) treating, e. g. partially sealing or impregnating, the anodized plate with an aqueous solution containing 0À01-5% w/v of an inorganic dichromate or silicate, e.g. K 2 Cr 2 O 7 or Na 2 SiO 3 , at a temperature from 55‹ F. to boiling point for ¢-20 minutes. For treating with a silicate solution, the anodized plate may be simply immersed in the solution at 160-212‹F., or as an anode in the solution at room temperature and applying a voltage of 12-20 volts. After each of steps (A) and (B), the plate may be rinsed and desmutted in an acid solution. After treatment the plate is prepared for subsequent exposure through a stencil.
