Abstract
1,240,327. Unsaturated polyesters from 1:3- dimethylolcyclohexane. NIHON GAS KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 22 'July, 1968 [21 July, 1967], No. 34899/68. Headings C3P and C3R. Unsaturated polyesters of M.W. 1500-3000 and acid numbers below 20 are prepared from (A) at least one α-#-ethenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, (B) at least one other dicarboxylic acid, (C) 1,3-cyclohexane dimethanol and optionally (D) at least one other glycol. One mole of acid, comprising 0À2-0À8 moles of A is used per 1À0-1À5 moles of glycol comprising solely (C), or 0À1 to 1.4 moles of (C) and 0À1 to 1.4 moles of (D). In the examples, maleic anhydride was used as component (A); phthalic anhydride, isophthalic acid or carbic anhydride was used as component (C); and ethylene glycol or propylene glycol -was used as component (D). The polyester is mixed with an unsaturated monomer, e.g. styrene, α-methyl styrene, divinyl benzene, a vinyl toluene, methylmethacrylate, diallyl phthalate, diallyl fumarate, diallyl ether or triaryl cyanurate, a catalyst, e.g. a peroxide or an azonitrile compound, and optionally an accelerator and/or inhibitor and the mixture polymerized.
