Abstract

1,240,242. Hand-driers. D. J. RUNCHMAN. 6 March, 1969, No. 11883/69. Heading A5R. A hand-drier, automatically operated by the insertion and removal of a user's hands 9, comprises a casing 3 having an upper compartment containing an electric heater 8 and fan 7 controllable by a switch 6, and a lower compartment normally closed by a sliding door 4 which is raised by the insertion of the hands, thereby operating the switch to energise the fan and heater, the door falling by gravity, upon removal of the hands, to interrupt the power-supply. A perforated partition 5 separates the two chambers and permits recirculation of air impinging upon the door while the hands are in place. In a modification, the door may be held open by a catch and may be closed by spring-action or by a motor.
