Abstract

1,139,678. Bearings. MAYOR & COULSON Ltd. 29 Aug., 1967 [31 May, 1966], No. 24238/66. Heading F2A. A roller bearing assembly for mounting a shaft 2 in a hollow portion of a roller 3 comprises a housing 5 having a roller bearing 4 mounted therein and means wedgeable between the housing 5 and the inner peripheral face of the roller 3. Said means comprises an endless V-belt 6 which is clamped between inwardly convergent faces of a flange 7 on the housing 5 and an annular member 8 respectively, the latter being moved towards the flange 7 by the tightening of peripherally interspaced bolts 9. In modifications the wedgeable means may comprise a number of arcuate members with internal conical-shaped faces which are mounted on a mating face of the housing, the arcuate members being urged towards the inner peripheral face of the roller by the tightening of the bolts; or may comprise an endless belt of wedge-shaped cross-section which abuts an end-flange of the housing. The shaft 2 may be replaced by a stubshaft supported by rwo rolling bearings.
