Abstract

1,138,250. Distributing fibres to a plurality of treating machines. CURLATOR CORP. 28 Dec., 1966 [18 Jan., 1966], No. 57939/66. Heading D1N. Fibres are distributed to a plurality of fibre treating machines 35, particularly carding machines, from a trunk line 30 through which they are drawn by a suction fan 36 by means of pairs of by-pass conduits 41, 48, one pair for each machine, fibres and air being drawn by a suction fan 45 downwardly through conduit 41, the fibres being separated from the air and thence passed to the treatment machine, and the air being returned through conduit 48 to the trunkline 30 upstream of its associated conduit 41. The conduit 41 terminates in a trumpet portion 42 which communicates with a housing 43 in which a foraminuous condenser revolves and is under the action of a suction fan 45. The take-off of air, and with it the quantity of fibres, from the trunk line is self regulating since with trumpet portion 42 empty there will be an inrush of air into conduit 41 due to the full suction effect of fan 45 while when the trumpet is full and compacted with fibres the flow rate of air in 41 will be cut off. The fibres deposited by suction on the condenser 44 are doffed and fed over a feed plate 62 to the lickerin 64 of the card. An adjustable pivoted vane 50 is provided at the return point of conduit 48 for the adjustable directing of the air downstream to avoid turbulence. In modification the downflow conduit 41 leads from the bottom of the trunkline and the conduit 48 feeds into the top of the trunkline (Fig. 6). In Figure 9 each downflow conduit delivers the fibres and air between two oppositely rotating opening rolls 86, 87 to a perforated duct leading to the trumpet portion 42', dirt passing through perforations 105 for collection in tray 106. The fibres are fed to trunkline 30 from two blending feeders. 20 and via a cleaner 24 and a cleaner opener 28 where air is admitted under the action of fan 36, additional air to the air from trunkline 30 may be injected after the cleaner opener 28 (Fig. 8).
