Abstract

1,138,188. Starting prime movers. C.A.V. Ltd. 23 Aug., 1966 [23 Sept., 1965], No. 40535/65. Heading H2H. In a system wherein the pinion on a quick pitch threaded starter motor shaft is moved axially for engagement with a toothed wheel by a solenoid 15, the solenoid is energized through contacts of a relay 13, the coil of which is in series with the motor 10, 11 and is such that the relay drops out when the motor current falls to a value consistent with the engine having fired. The motor circuit is closed by a further relay 14, 17 when a manual switch 16 is closed. The embodiment shown has a current limiting resistor which is short circuited by contacts 19 when the pinion is fully engaged.
