Abstract

1,137,190. Breech mechanism for a gun. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 24 Oct., 1966 [30 Oct., 1965], No. 47680/66. Heading F3C. In a breech mechanism for a gun, the breech block 4 comprises a base piece of the barrel 1 and slides transversely thereto on two parallel guide bars 3. The guide bars 3 project at least on one side of the barrel 1 laterally thereof to support the breech block in its open position. The breech block is held on the guide bars by two guiding and holding arms 6 which extend axially beyond the guide bars and being connected together at one side of the barrel to form a U-shaped aperture forward of the guide bars. The barrel 1 is mounted in a cradle tube 2 and is provided at its rear end with an obturator which co-operates, in the closed position of the breech block 4, with a plate 11 of heat resistant steel inset in the breech block 4. An aperture is provided in the breech block 4 and plate 11 to house an electrical firing mechanism. The breech block 4 may be actuated by hydraulic power (Fig. 3, not shown).
