Abstract
1,136,208. Non-linear circuits. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 24 May, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 24195/67. Heading G4G. [Also in Division H3] A differential amplifier (shown as T 1 , T 2 ), for producing an output of one polarity irrespective of the polarity of the input voltage has one input E 1 connected through a resistor Ra to a common input terminal E and through a negative feedback resistor R c to the amplifier output, the other input terminal being connected through a resistor Rb to the common terminal and through a switch T 4 to earth, the switch being operated in dependence upon the polarity of the input signal to the common terminal. When the input signal at E is negative a polarity detector K produces a + 12V output so that diodes D 1 and D 2 are cut-off. T 4 conducts and connects the base of T 2 to earth through a resistor R 0 biased through R 1 to offset the voltage drop across T 4 . The input signal accordingly passes through amplifier stages T 1 and T 3 with a phase reversal, the gain being made equal to 1 by the choice of feedback resistor R c . When the signal is positive the polarity detector K gives a zero output which cuts off T 4 so that the input signal passes also to T 2 . The design of the amplifier is such that the gain is still unity and of the output is same sense as before.
