Abstract

1,134,391. Lubricating. HARLAND ENG. CO. Ltd. 16 Nov., 1966 [26 Aug., 1965], No. 36696/65. Heading F2A. A lubricating water system for a turbine impeller pump comprises a reservoir 60 with top and bottom compartments 62, 63 connected by a gravity feed, a closed water circuit including the bottom compartment, and one or more turbine or pump bearings, one or more water collecting chambers for water leaking past one or more bearings outside the closed circuit for returning the water to the top compartment, and a float controlled outlet valve from the top compartment and an inlet valve to the bottom compartment. In the figure shown reservoir 60 is divided by a partition 61 with a standpipe containing a one way valve 65. Water is supplied from compartment 63 through a cooler 66 to a thrust bearing 207 in a closed circuit and bearings 208, 210 outside this circuit. Water leaking into chamber 221 is returned to compartment 63. Water leaking into chambers 224, 227 from bearings 208, 210 and from impeller 202 through bushes 209, 230 is directed to a deaerator. Both water from bearing 210 and steam from turbine 200 leaks into chamber 212, water being directed thence to compartment 62 and steam to the deaerator. Valves 74, 75 are controlled by floats 76, 77 and discharge to a condenser and a drain tank respectively. Valves 70, 72 controlled by floats 71, 73 admit water from a reserve tank and deaerator respectively.
