Abstract

1,133,751. Single lens reflex cameras with focal plane shutters. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Nov. 5, 1965[Nov.7, 1964], No.46923/65. Heading G2A. A single lens mirror reflex camera comprises a control disc 8 rotated, on operation of a camera release, so as to impart a sinusoidal motion to a lever 7 controlling movement of the mirror 1 to move the latter through a compound movement from the viewing to the taking position and to release the focal plane shutter 33, 34 for rundown thereof, the shutter, on completion of its rundown, releasing the disc 8 to permit it to complete its rotation, thereby returning the mirror to the viewing position; operation of the camera release also releases a diaphragm setting mechanism 25-29 to permit the diaphragm to assume a setting pre-selected by rotation of a ring 39. To make an exposure, a release button is moved, thus pivoting a lever 20 in the direction A and freeing the disc 8 to rotate under spring action, thereby moving the lever 7. Pivoting the lever 20 also frees the ring 25 and hence the diaphragm setting ring 29 to rotate until a projection 25a engages the abutment 39a of the ring 39 at the pre-selected diaphragm aperture setting. Then a pin 8c of the disc 8 pivots a lever 37 anti-clockwise (as seen in the Figure) to disengage a ratchet 36 from the shutter control gear 35 allowing the first curtain 33 to run down. The disc 8 is prevented from rotating further by a lever 32, a stop 32b thereof engaging a projection 8b. The second curtain 34 is released to run down after a pre-selected time by means of a gear 38 carrying a cam 38a which, at the end of the run down of the curtain 34, pivots the lever 32 out of the path of the disc 8 thereby freeing the disc to complete one revolution and freeing a slide 30 to move in the direction C so as to reset the rings 25, 29 in the position of maximum diaphragm aperture. Retensioning of springs 10, 40, retensioning of the shutter and transporting of the film are effected by manually pivoting the lever 18 in the direction D, which lever may be replaced by an electric or a clockwork motor.
