Abstract

1,131,954. Anchoring bolts. J. D. CUM. MING. 21 Feb., 1966, No. 7581/66. Heading F2H. A rock bolting assembly comprises a bolt 14 which carries a rock gripping shell 18 comprising members 20 carried by a collar 21. A washer 22 surrounds the bolt and a nut 24 screwed on the bolt engages the washer which carries sealing material 37 to seal the hole. A passage 26, preferably extending to the inner end of the bolt has a transverse passage 27 positioned above the collar 21. Grouting is applied through the passage to fill cracks 13 in the rock and the drilled hole and thus fix the collar 21. A valve 30 controls the flow of grout which may be applied in stages permitting release of air at each stage. When the bolt is in a downwardly drilled hole, the transverse passage is positioned near the washer. If the rock is soft grout may be applied and left to set prior to tensioning the bolt by an hydraulic ram.
