Abstract
1,131,115. Matching impedances. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 14 Feb., 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 26222/66. Heading H1W. The sections between the steps of a binomially-stepped matching arrangement are tapered to effect a marginal reduction in overall reflection coefficient. As shown, the invention is applied to a strip line impedance-matching section S arranged between a coaxial-line conductor X and a YIG element YY forming the coupling element in a frequency-adjustable coupler. The tapering of sections A-B, B-C is non-linear and is a maximum at the centre of the sections. The variation in characteristic impedance of the sections is less than 10% and the reflection due to the tapering is less than the reduction in reflection effected thereby at the discontinuities. The line S forms the central conductor of a " sandwich " type line which is coupled to an adjacent sandwich line by the YIG element YY. The resonance frequency of the element is controlled by a variable magnetic field.
