Abstract
1,130,728. Fluid amplifier. CORNING GLASS WORKS. April 20, 1966 [April 29, 1965], No. 17346/66. Heading G3H. When pressurised fluid i.e. gas or liquid, is connected to an aperture 26 of a bistable fluid amplifier, a power stream issues from an orifice 28, and 'locks-on' to one of the outlets 32, 34 e.g. outlet 32, and flows to an outlet 40, part of this stream flows through an auxiliary control orifice 44 and passes to an exhaust port 54. A signal at one or other apertures 60, 62 will impinge on the stream from orifice 44 causing it to be deflected to a power stream control-orifice 36 where it deflects the power stream to the other outlet 34 at which control is effected by an identical set of outlets apertures and orifices. The amplifier provides high pressure and flow gains. The amplifier is formed by two or three plates of metal, glass, ceramic or plastics material bolted, sealed or bonded together. The outlets 40, 42 are connected to digital or analogue circuit elements or to visual indicators, transducers, diaphragms or pistons. The signal apertures 60, 62, 68, 70 are connected to transducers, other fluid amplifiers, output gating devices, AND and NOR devices or valves.
