1,130,691. Measuring fluid flow. G.M.SPENCE. June 27,1967 [Jan. 13, 1967], No.1938/67. Headings G1A, G1N and G1R. [Also in Division A1] Apparatus for measuring the volume of liquid passing through a conduit comprises means responsive to the presence of liquid in the conduit and means for integrating the output signal. The presence of milk in the conduit 10 is detected by interruption of light from a source 12 to a photocell 13 or by the change of resistance between a pair of electrodes. The detection signal is integrated by a unit 14 which resets itself and emits a pulse every time the integrated signal reaches a predetermined level. The pulses are counted at 15 to give an indication of milk yield. The pulses also actuate a hopper control 18 to deliver to the animal producing the milk an amount of feed related to the yield. The pre-feed control 19 resets the counter and delivers a quantity of pre-feed at the start of a milking session and determines the amount of feed to be delivered for each pulse.
