Abstract

1,130,464. Superconducting cables. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. 11 Jan., 1967 [13 Jan., 1966], No. 1417/67. Heading H1A. A superconductive cable comprises superconductors 3 surrounded by a contact member 4 bonded to the superconductors. The superconductors shown are plated at 5 with e.g. copper or silver and the contact member is bonded by a bonding metal 7 such as indium. The superconductors run axially parallel to the cable and the contact member is formed by a sleeve folded round the core. Further embodiments (Figs. 2-12, not shown), comprise respectively contact members (10) forming part of the core, multiple layers of superconductors, profiled contact members (14), contact members seamed at the side, contact members having overlapping seams (15), sideseamed contact members adjacent reinforcing members (18), contact members in two parts (19), (20) giving interlocking windings (24), rectangular cross-section superconductors and charging apertures (39) for entry of bonding material.
