Abstract

[Also in Division B3] A wheel rim for a motor vehicle comprising a detachable side ring 3 held in place by a circlip 4 has a base portion 1 one side of which is divided into segments 11 by a plurality of axial slots 10 extending part way across the rim. The segments are permanently deformed inwards by an amount A so that when the rim is removed from the wheel they spring away from the tyre. The rim is held on the wheel by blocks acting on a portion 9 of an annular ridge 6 to clamp sloping surfaces 7, 8 against corresponding seats on the wheel spokes. The clamping action forces the segments 11 outwards into contact with the tyre.
