Abstract
1,129,684. Trueing grinding wheels. GRIND ALL TOOLS Ltd. 12 Dec., 1966 [18 Oct., 1965], No. 43956/65. Heading B3D. A grinding wheel dresser comprises a tool sleeve 17 which is adapted to receive a dressing tool 15 and is slidably and rotatably mounted in a housing 10, the sleeve being adapted to engage with a cam surface 31 within the housing so as to move longitudinally for adjustment of a dressing tool when mounted in the sleeve in response to angular movement thereof. The housing may be supported by bearings 34 upon a shaft 14 of a grinding machine for movement between an operative position, in which a stop 13 engages an abutment 35 on the machine frame as shown, and an inoperative position. The housing has a bore 12 in which a cam sleeve 25 is a press fit. The tool sleeve 17 is rotatable and axially movable in the cam sleeve and at one end has a screw thread for receiving the dressing tool, and at the other end has a flange 21 carrying a peg 24 for engaging a cam surface 31 consisting of a series of steps on the sleeve 25. The screw thread permits coarse adjustment of the dressing tool and rotation of the tool sleeve which is urged by a spring 23 so that the peg engages the cam surface and provides fine adjustment. The position of the tool sleeve can be determined by a scale 26 and is located in position by a spring-pressed ball 28 engaging notches 29 in the flange 21. In another embodiment, the holder can be swung through a quadrant for dressing partspherical surfaces.
