Abstract
1,129,173. Tobacco smoke filters. CIGARETTE COMPONENTS Ltd. 5 April, 1966, No. 15179/66. Addition to 1,103,091. Heading A2C. An elongated strip of tobacco smoke filter material capable of being folded over upon itself transversely of its length has applied to one side additional material at intervals along its length and the strip is then folded to form a rod so that the peripheral surface of the filter in the rod is not that upon which the additional material was deposited. The rod is then wrapped and cut into filter lengths. The filter material may be longitudinally crimped paper and the additional material may be further filtering or flavouring material e.g. activated carbon or carbon particles contained adsorbed menthol. The transverse folding is effected by a device comprising a base 11 upon which is mounted a tapering trough 12 integral with a divided trumpet 13 consisting of two incomplete frusto-conical parts having flared ends and through which the filter material is led. The trough is closed by a hinged lid 14 which continues the conical shape of the trumpet 13. In an alternative form the conical sections of the lid may be separate and individually hinged, Fig. 4 (not shown).
