Abstract

1,128,708. Yarn packages. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 30 June, 1967 [4 July, 1966(2); 14 Feb., 1967(2)], No. 30207/67. Heading B8C. A protective wrapping for yarn wound on a hollow core comprises an annular disc of foamed plastics held at each end of the package by a heat shrunk wrapper, the wrapper leaving an area of each disc exposed round the ends of the core. The discs 3<SP>11</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> may be plain or have annular recesses 33, 35 which facilitate tearing the free edges 34 of the wrapper 5<SP>11</SP>. Alternatively, radial recesses may serve this purpose. The wrapper may be initially of tubular form with short slits extending longitudinally from each end, Fig. 1 (not shown), to produce the polygonal formation shown in Fig. 9. This formation facilitates tearing. Two or more yarn packages may be enclosed end to end by a single wrapper with a disc between adjacent packages. The discs 16 may be stepped to facilitate close packing. Projecting core ends may telescope to stabilize end-to-end packages.
