Heading B1D [Also in Division D1] A method of securing a jacket of wire gauze 3 around a filter candle 1 comprises placing rails 6 along the outer side of each splay 5, 6 so that the rails 6 are in "V" shaped relationship, welding the rails at the apex 8 of the V over at least parts of their lengths, and moving the rails towards one another to tighten the jacket 3 around the filter candle.
