Abstract

1,128,166. Drying aggregate layers. LACEYHULBERT & CO. Ltd. 1 April, 1966 [14 April, 1965], No. 15903/65. Heading F4G. [Also in Division E1] In apparatus for drying an aggregate layer 2 above a concrete roof 1, the layer is covered, temporarily or permanently, by an impervious membrane 4 to which suction connections, e.g. pipes 10, 20, 30, are sealed where they pass through apertures in the membrane, and the moisture-laden atmosphere from the layer is withdrawn by a suction pump 43 connected to at least one connection. The pipes 10, 20, 30 are apertured and may have a coaxial strainer 11, and are connected to the pump via a union 41, cap 22 and reurn bend 31 respectively. Horizontal pipes may be utilized which may be inset in drainage grooves in the upper surface of the roof, or the pipes may be replaced by a rubber suction cup temporarily positioned over a hole in the membrane in conjunction with a porous mesh interposed between the layer and membrane.
