Abstract

1,128,164. Valves. BONSER ENG. Ltd. 17 Feb., 1966 [17 Feb., 1965], No. 6739/65. Heading F2V. An hydraulic pit prop (not shown) is connected to the outlet port 7 of a relief valve 1 and is extended by fluid passing from the valve inlet 2 via hollow piston 14, 16 and bores 12 in closure member 13. After extension of the prop the inlet pressure is reduced to allow spring 15 to seat the closure member against the end of piston 14, 16. If the pressure in the prop increases, e.g. due to subsidence, the pressure acting on the tapered surface 24 of the piston moves the latter downwardly relative to the closure member to relieve the pressure in the prop. Surfaces 24 and 27 may be of equal area.
