Abstract

1,128,097. Universal joints. BENDIX CORP. 25 May, 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 23427/66. Heading F2U. In a constant velocity-ratio universal joint wherein torque transmitting balls 32 engage straight grooves 28, 30 in an outer drum 10 and inner hub 18, the balls 32 are retained in a cage 36 having outer and inner spherical surfaces 50, 52 struck from different centres 54, 56 equidistant from the ball plane 42 and engaging the inner cylindrical and outer spherical surfaces of the drum 10 and hub 18 respectively to pilot the cage 32 into the bisector plane. The cylindrical drum 10 permits the hub 18 and cage 36 to move axially. A flexible lubricant retaining cover 66 is provided. Recesses 68 in the cage 36 facilitate assembly.
