Abstract
1,124,461. Electro-physical measurement. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec.22, 1965 [Jan. 7, 1965], No.754/65. Heading G1N. The moisture content of transformer oil is measured by the unbalance of a hybrid-T junction having reference and test cells in the cross arms. As shown, the cross arms 1, 2 are provided with variable attenuators 9, 13, reference cell 5 and test cell 11 and short circuit terminations 10, 14. The H-plane arm 4 is energized from a klystron 21 and the out-of-balance energy in the E-plane arm 3 is measured by meter 20 and probe 17. In use oil is bled from the pipe-line 22, and the valves 24, 27, 28, 29 set so that oil passes through the drying columns 25, 26, and the cells 5, 11. The apparatus is then adjusted to give zero output in arm 3. Oil with known proportions of water may then be injected through pipe 31 to cell 11 to calibrate the meter. Measurement is made after calibration, by setting the valves so that dried oil flows through cell 5 and test oil through cell 11. A similar apparatus may be used for testing solid materials
