Abstract
A method of setting and dyeing woollen textile materials comprises treating the material with a swelling agent and a dyestuff to swell and dye the fibres and deswelling the material by dyeing or rinsing with a deswelling solution the swelling agent being a) urea and sodium bioulfite or sodium sulfite in either an aqueous solution or an aqueous solution mixed with an organic solvent, b) guanidine and sodium bisulfite or sodium sulfite in either an aqueous solution or an aqueous solution mixed with an organic solvent, c) monoethanolamine sulfite or sodium thioglycollate in aqueous solution d) sodium or ammonium thiocyanate and sodium bisulfite or sodium sulfite in aqueous solution or e) sodium bisulfite, sodium sulfite or sodium thioglycollate in aqueous solution optionally mixed with organic solvent, and the deswelling solution being f) water, g) water mixed with an acid, h) water mixed with organic solvent or j) water mixed with formaldehyde. Preferably the swelling agent and dye are applied simultaneously followed by pressing out and optionally heating with steam or dry heat or the material is swelled and then deswelled in the dyebath. The dyes employed may be acid dyes, chromium mordant dye, substantive dyes, vat dyes, reactive dyes, pigment or disperse dyes.
