Abstract

A refractory composition comprises a substantially homogeneous mixture of refractory particles containing a major proportion of calcined alumina coated flint clay. Optional ingredients are kyanite, bond clay, and water. Cooling is by using an aqueous slurry of alumina which can contain binders, e.g. alkyl celluloses, which are used in conjunction with anti-fermenting agents e.g. HCHO or H2O2. The slurry also includes surfactants, a long list being given. The refractory product can be packaged as slabs in moisture proof bags.
