A liner L is cemented in well bore W by passing cement from manifold 150 down manifold 16 behind a plug 141 which engages and locks in a plug element 44. The pressure applied by the cement breaks pins 48 and members 141 and 44 move down to engage and lock in a sleeve 88. Cement pressure shears pins 90 and members 141, 44 and 88 abut ring 82 and move this ring and valve seat 72 down until spring ring 83 engages groove 86. The cement can now pass around the outside of sleeve 88, through slots 91, past ball valve 78 and through holes 70 into the space between the bore-wall and the liner. When the required volume of cement has been introduced, a displacing fluid is applied from the manifold behind a plug 140 which moves down the manifold to engage and lock in plug element 30. Pins 32 are sheared and members 140, 30 move down to engage and lock with shoulder 94. If necessary, the liner may now be anchored to casing C by slips 102 using increased fluid pressure to shear pins 108 and act in chamber 105 to raise the slips. Packer P may be expanded against the casing, to isolate the cement from the fluids it has displaced, by rotating mandrel 16 to release threads 125, 126 and allow downward movement of the mandrel. Hence ratchet threads 131 engage in nut 130 and shoulder 19 moves sleeve 128 to expand packer seal 112. Washing fluid may now be circulated via conduits V, registering ports 132, 133, 134, up the mandrel and into manifold 150. The mandrel and packer may be withdrawn for re-use.
