Abstract
1,122,592. Hypodermic syringes. F. WANTOCH. 31 Aug., 1965 [19 May, 1965], No. 21155/65. Heading A5R. A hypodermic syringe, used to inject fluid from a replaceable flexible bag 6 through a needle 8, comprises two pistons 15, 16 able to be moved to a limited extent independently of each other inside a cylindrical barrel 1, the space 22 above the pistons receiving the bag 6 when it is filled with fluid (Figure 3, not shown), there being apertures 24 in the piston 15 and there being communication between the space 23 and the atmosphere through the hollow piston rod 17. Concentric hollow piston rods 17, 20 are used to move the pistons and, when filling the bag 6 from a separate container, the piston 16 is moved away from the piston 15 (into the position shown in Figure 2) to extract air from the space 22 into a space 23, thus ensuring that the bag 6 fills the space 22 completely. Alternatively, a pre-filled bag may be fitted into the syringe. The syringe is also provided with a clip device 10, 12 releasaby retaining the bag and the needle hub (3). A layer 25 of foam plastics material on the piston 16 is impregnated with a silicone lubricant to lubricate the internal surface of the chamber of the syringe. A device, Figures 7 and 8 (not shown), is pnovided on the piston 15 for gripping the bag 6. In an embodiment (Figure 6, not shown), one piston (52) is loosely contained within the other (50).
