[Also in Division F4] Textile treatment apparatus particularly for steaming, drying and setting loose textile material, slivers or hanks of textile material comprises a closed housing 1 divided by a partition 2 into a fan chamber 4 and a treatment chamber 3, the chamber 3 being provided with a sieve drum 5 subjected to suction by means of a fan 10, the drum 5 having a diameter of 2 or more metres. The fan chamber may be further divided into several chambers each having tubular heating elements 12 provided therein, and each having an opening 15 for communication with the treatment chamber. The sieve drum 5 may be supported in bearings which are flanged to the housing 1 or to a cast-iron spider 9 in the partition 2. The sieve drum may be provided with a wire mesh covering and/or a cloth covering for better distribution of the treatment medium. The drum may further be constructed for at least two working widths side by side, and part only of the drum may be permeable to air. Means are provided, in this case, for transferring the material from one working width to the adjacent working width, such means preferably consisting of several rollers at least one of which is arranged obliquely to the drum axis. Means such as pins fitted to rings may be provided for tensicning the material. In a preferred embodiment, a conveyor belt (18) is provided for feeding material to and from the drum, which belt may be in contact with the drum or with the middle roller (20) of a set of three guiding rollers, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The middle roller may be designed as a brush. The apparatus may also be used for treating tow passing in zig-zag folds over the drum. Sieve drums with smaller diameters may be connected in front of and/or behind the large sieve drum.
