Syringes of the kind in which the spraying- nozzle barrel is provided with a compartment within which is arranged a cage or container adapted to receive disinfectants, insecticides, &c., and to be rotated by the passage of water through the compartment. The said cage or container comprises a number of compartments n, Figs. 2 and 5, that successively come under the influence of a stream of water passing through the barrel a as the cage or container rotates. The axis of rotation of the cage is at right angles to the flow of liquid, and the nozzle barrel extends tangentially from the cage compartment d. The cage is fixed on a spindle h mounted to rotate in an end wall of the compartment at one end, and in a removable bar or the like k, the ends of which fit into grooves in the other end of the compartment. Chemicals are introduced by removing a cap f and partly rotating a bladed plate o so as to uncover the cage compartments, after raising it so as to disengage recesses on the cover plate from projection on an end plate p, which is formed with openings corresponding with the compartments n. At the rear of each compartment is fixed a plate r, Fig. 5, against which the water strikes. The disinfectants &c. are preferably used as soaps in bar or lozenge form. When used as a hand sprayer the apparatus is held so that the chamber below the barrel and water is drawn in, as when using an ordinary garden syringe; when full the sprayer is turned over and the liquid forced out. The apparatus may be applied to war uses, such as for spraying trenches for the destruction of mosquito larvae, and for agricultural and horticultural purposes.
