Abstract

1,116,961. Wheel cutters. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNO - KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT METALLURGICHESKOGO MASHINOSTROE NIA. 10 Nov., 1965, No. 47645/65. Heading B3W. An apparatus for parting sections from a circular workpiece comprises disc cutters 13 each mounted on a stub-axle 12, the stub axles being carried by bell cranks 10 which are secured to spindles 9 and the spindles being carried in bearings in a face-plate 8. The spindles 9 pass through the face-plate and have keyed to them, on the opposite side of the face-plate levers 11, Fig. 4, on which are mounted weights 15. The face-plate 8 is rotated by an electric motor through a reduction gear-box and due to centrifugal force the weights move outwardly and the disc cutters 13 move inwardly against a workpiece which is coaxial with the faceplate. At the end of the cut the arms 10 are rotated to their original positions by springs 14. The workpiece passes through the hollow spindle 7 of the apparatus and is centred and held by clamps (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), which are actuated by hydraulic cylinders (17). Means may also be provided for rotating the workpiece about its axis.
