A shear spinning machine comprises two opposed carriers 13 each supporting a pair of rolls 14 for pressing the work 3 against a mandrel. The carriers are mounted on pivots 12 rotatable in bearings 11 in opposed slides which are movable oppositely by lead screws 7 with sections of opposite hand engaging nuts 6 on the slides. The screws are splined for limited endwise movement in worm-wheels driven by worming-gears 8 from a motor 10, controlled by a copying unit. The slides are mounted in a frame 1 supported on a pivot 4.
