Abstract

111,673. Soc. J. Munier et Cie. Nov. 28, 1916, [Convention date]. Load, engaging, releasing, and depositing.-Relates to blast furnace &c. skip hoists, and comprises means for lowering the skip on to the furnace mouth, and for operating the skip cover. As shown diagrammatically in Fig. 2, the carriage track of the skip hoist has a portion 7 with diverging rails, which allow the skip carriage to tip and lower the skip to the furnace mouth. The skip carriage consists of a framework A, Fig. 7, having front and rear wheels 2, 3, of which the former engage only the main track 1 while the latter have two sets of flanges, one for the track 1 and the other for the upper diverging track a, b. The cable 16 is secured at 26 to a pulley wheel 25 freely mounted on the rear axle, while the twin cables 15 pass round fixed sectors 23. Secured at each side of the pulley 25 are disks 27 round which pass Galle chains 29 connected by a cross pin 30 to another Galle chain 31 passing round a pulley on the front axle and terminating in the skip suspension hook 33. The skip cover 42 is suspended from chains 37 secured to the rear axle, and passing over arms 36 free on the axle, but normally held from movement by stops 58 on the disks 27. Two pivoted flaps 44 on the cover are normally held open by chains secured to the links 40, but are allowed to fall to close the opening in the cover when the suspension chains are slack. A pivoted arm or bolt 50 normally prevents disengagement of the skip rod 55 from the suspension hook 33. The winding gear comprises a motor 71, Fig. 12, which drives through reducing gearing 70 - - 67 the drum F, and through an electro-magnetic clutch 85 and reducing-gearing 81 - - 78 the drum H. The twin cables 15 and the greater portion of the length of the cable 16 wind on to the portion 62 of the drum F, while the remainder of the cable 16 winds on to a portion 63 of greater diameter. When the carriage reaches the top of the track and begins to tilt, the cable 16 unwinds from the larger part 63 of the drum F. As the traction cable 15 is winding on the smaller part 62 of the drum, the cable 16 slackens, allowing the pulley wheel 25 with the disks 27 to turn and the skip to descend on to the furnace mouth. The cover descends at the same time, but more rapidly owing to the length of the arm 36, until it seats itself on the top of the skip. The slackening of the chains allows flaps in the cover to close. At the bottom of the track the arm 36 is depressed by contact of the roller 35 with a suitably shaped rail and the cover 42 is raised further to operate the bolt 50 through the lever 48 and link 52.
