Abstract

1,116,621. Plate heat exchangers. ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING Ltd. 24 March, 1965 [27 Dec., 1963], No. 51044/63. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger, particularly a radiator for an I.C. engine, comprises externally finned passages 16 (which in use extend between headers), each formed by a pair of aluminium or aluminium alloy foil sheets not more than 0À012 inch thick which, when folded and bonded together by an adhesive define the passages 16 and fins 13. As shown, each sheet is folded to provide web portions 14 which together define a wall of the passage 16. The sheet edges may be shaped as shown to interfit when two sheets are placed together or the edges may be plane (Fig. 4), the necessary spacing being effected by strips (21) or by thick beads of adhesive. The fin edges may be bent over to give a honeycomb appearance (Fig. 3) or the fins may have louvres (22, Fig. 4) formed therein. The heat exchanger shown is completed by side walls 19 and end plates 17. The end plates may each be formed with integral side walls forming part of the header tank.
