Abstract
1,116,413. Yarn-joining apparatus for spinning &C machines. R. ESCURSELL PRAT. 3 Jan., 1966, No. 63/66. Heading DID. In a method of rethreading yarn into the ring traveller after a broken end has been located, gripped,passed through the upper threadguide and maintained thereabove. yarn is withdrawn from the package in sufficient length to form and maintain a balloon until the rethreading is completed, and the yarn is acted upon to form a secondary balloon inside the ring, whereby centrifugal force acting on this balloon causes the yarn to graze the inner wall surface of the ring and to be automatically threaded in the traveller. The broken-end is located, gripped and threaded through the upper yarn guide by the carriage-device described in Specification 908,507. Yarn is withdrawn from the package in one of two ways: either by back-rotating the package as described in Specification 908,507 or by means of rollers 5, 6, Fig. 3. These are situated above the upper yarn-guide, and rotate to withdraw yarn from the package even when the package is rotated in the yarn-winding direction, when the spindles are restarted and immediately before the break is repaired by laying the end in contact with the roving issuing from the drafting rollers as described in Specification 908,507. The yarn between the spindle and the upper guide tends to balloon, is engaged by a pivoted member 18, Fig. 4, reciprocating into and out of the balloon path, whereby the yarn is caused to vibrate. A secondary balloon forming inside the ring is caused by the vibrations to extend into grazing contact with the inside of the ring and so be caught up by the traveller. The upper guide comprises, when the yarn is unwound by rollers 5, 6, two fixed eyelets 14, 16 and a movable guide 15 between them, when the yarn is rethreaded in the traveller, it comes under tension and displaces the guide for a contact 21 to cut out the motor driving the rollers, and initiate the final operations described in Specification 908,507 are then carried out. One of the rollers, 6, is mounted to rotate on an axle 10 carried by an arm 11, which is pivoted and urged by the spring 13 into contact with a second roller 5 which is driven by a motor 7 which starts when the spindles are restarted. The degree of vibration, and hence the extent of the secondary balloon can be varied by adjusting the extent to which the member 18 projects into the balloon path, by adjusting its height above the ring, or by using an additional member or members.
