Abstract

1,116,493. Packaging-machines; bitumen package. MINERAHOL- u ASPHALTWERKE A.G. 16 July, 1965 [20 April, 1965], No. 30396/65. Heading B8C. Bitumen is packaged by being poured molten into plastics bags at a temperature below that to which it is heated for use, the bags being arranged in moulds and their mouths pressed on to the contents while it is still hot. The bags may be of a material, e.g. polypropylene, which will melt at the use temperature, enabling the bag to remain on the contents during melting. The bag may be white to reduce the effect of exposure to the sun. Apparatus for producing blocks comprises rows of moulds 2 on a conveyer 1 moving intermittently from a station where bags are inserted, past filling means 3 (not shown), to a position where the solidified blocks fall on a resilient shoot member 13 and on to a conveyer 14 for removal to a discharge table 15. Each mould has a false bottom and this is raised towards the mouth by a piston-rod 11 to eject any block not falling out by gravity. Alternatively, a compressed air nozzle may engage an aperture in the mould base (not shown).
