Abstract

A weighing machine comprising a beam 1 which is pivotally arranged so that its angle of inclination is proportional to the weight of a load supported on a weigh pan 26, is provided with a price scale 6 which is rotatable by the beam 1 and which, in accordance with the price per unit weight of the load being weighed, is so positioned along a guideway 3 in the plane of rotation of the beam that an optical viewing system mounted in the machine provides a direct reading from the price scale 6 of the value of the load. The price scale 6 is mounted on a support 4 which is slidable in the guideway 3 and is rotatable by a rack and pinion mechanism 8, 5, the rack 8 of which is attached to a slipper 7 slidably mounted on the beam 1. A counterweight (9) Fig. 3 (not shown) is arranged to be moved along the beam 1 simultaneously with the positioning of the slipper 7 in order to compensate for the variable moment on the beam 1 produced by the rack 8 and slipper 7. A lamp (10), lenses (11, 16) Fig. 3 (not shown), mirrors (12, 17) and lenses (13, 18) all mounted on the support 4 and forming part of the optical viewing system transmit an image of part of the rotatable price scale 6 together with an image of part of a fixed scale 15 which indicates price per unit weight in accordance with the positioning of the support 4 along the guideway 3 to a customer's viewing screen 25 and a salesman's viewing screen 24. The screens 24 and 25 are mounted in a housing separated from a housing for the other parts of the weighing machine to allow the customer an unimpeded view of the load on the weigh pan 26.
