Abstract
1,115,316. Magneto-resistive devices. SIEMENS SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. 4 Oct., 1965 [3 Oct., 1964 (2)], No. 42076/65. Heading H1K. [Also in Division G1] A magneto-resistive semi-conductor element with two or three terminals (for use as a rheostat or potentiometer respectively) is located in the gap between two magnetic polepieces, one of which is rotatable about an axis passing through itself and about which it is asymmetric so as to vary the magnetic flux passing through the semi-conductor element and hence its resistance. Suggested forms of rotatable polepiece include eccentric, spiral, and worm-shaped, and a disc set obliquely to the axis of rotation. A plurality of elements may be arranged in cascade (Figs. 12 and 13, not shown), each with its own rotatable polepiece on a common spindle, either all moving together or set in motion in sequence so that one starts as the previous one stops. Such elements may be used as position indicators, e.g. for the gimbal rings of a Cardan suspension (Figs. 14 to 17, not shown).
