Abstract

1,115,131. Feeding fibres; mixing fibres. SOC. ANON. ETABLISSEMENTS NEU. 1 April, 1966 [3 April, 1965], No. 14706/66. Headings D1F and D1N. Fibre tufts, are supplied to a number of textile machines e.g. carding engines 7, 8 from a closed circuit conduit 6, 10 (see also Fig. 4, not shown) carrying fibres in an air stream, each machine having means to divert a portion of the fibres to itself. As shown fibres pass on a conveyor 1 to a rotary condenser 3, are detached therefrom and blown into conduit 6. At each machine there is a lateral branch 9 connected to a funnel 33 (see also Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the lower end of which is subjected to the action of a fan 32 to draw off a portion of the airstream in duct 6, this air stream passes through screens (31, 31'), see Fig. 5, not shown, to deposit the fibres thereon while the air returns via pump (32) and a filter (35) to duct 6. Moving arms (44, 44') remove the fibres from screens (31, 31') to deliver them to the feeding device (30) for the machine. At the mouth of branch 9 a rotating cylinder 11 has vanes which project into duct 6 and remove fibres therefrom; the bearings of the cylinder are on slides so that the projection of the vanes into the duct may be varied. A false wall (38) (Fig. 5, not shown) at one side of duct 9 is movable so that the cross section of the duct may be varied. Just upstream of each duct 9 is a flap 41 which may be raised by a solenoid 43 to deflect the airstream over the associated duct; the solenoid may be as connected to an overflowdetecting device on the feed device of the associated machine so that the supply of fibres to each machine can be regulated. Cylinders 11 are driven from an electric motor by a belt, rope or chain drive, the pulleys in the drive being exchangable for different cylinder speeds. In Fig. 1, not shown, a second fibre supplying device (2') feeds into duct 6 to effect a mixing of different fibres.
