Abstract

1,114,370. Buffers. COLT'S Inc. 1 Nov., 1966 [18 April, 1966], No. 48948/66. Heading F2S. [Also in Division F3] A buffer for an automatic firearm having a bolt assembly comprises a body 66 housing a plurality of weights 80, the weights 80 being separated from each other and from the forward end of the buffer body by washers 82 of a material having a very low coefficient of restitution. The rear end of the body 66 is closed by a plug 72 held within the body by a pin 74 and by crimping the body at several points into a groove 79 of the plug. The orimping seals the buffer cavity. The plug is provided with a bumper 76 of, for example, polyurethane of high durometer hardness. The weights 80 are able to move relatively to each other and the buffer body 66 such that on the bolt assembly being locked in the battery position the weights are urged forwardly in the body to oppose any rebound motion of the bolt assembly.
