Abstract
Compounds of the formula <FORM:1114277/C2/1> are made (i) where R5 is hydrogen, R is b -sulphoethylcarbamyl, R1 is 2-methyl, R2 is ethyl and R3 is b -sulphoethyl, by oxidizing 2 - (b - sulphoethylcarbamyl) - 1 - naphthol and 2 - methyl - 4 - (N - ethyl - N - b - sulphoethylamino)aniline with potassium ferricyanide, isolating as the barium salt and converting to the dipotassium salt; (ii) where R5, R1, R2 and R3 are as in (i) above and R is acetyl, by oxidizing 2 - aceto - 1 - naphthol and 2 - methyl - 4 - (N - ethyl - N - b - sulphoethylamino)aniline with potassium ferricyanide and isolating as the sodium salt.
