Abstract
1,113,320. Induction furnaces. BROWN BOVERIE & CO. Ltd. 24 Feb., 1967 [26 Feb., 1966], No. 9041/67. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F2] A gasket (see Division F2) for sealing the inductor unit when it is attached to a furnace which is still hot comprises one or more wire mesh webs 3 held in a frame 1, 2 and coated with a mixture of granulated or powdered magnesium oxide and bitumen. During service, the heat causes the bitumen mass to become coked and the material sintered. The gasket may be provided with a layer of chromium oxide or magnesium oxide for preventing damage when the joint is broken; in addition, the gasket may be provided on both sides with a layer of asbestos board to prevent the material from becoming prematurely soft when inserted between heated parts.
