Abstract

A method of making a boot or shoe having a protective midsole e.g. of steel, includes the step of coating the midsole with an elastomeric material prior to its incorporation in the boot or shoe. The protective midsole is coated with a tacky rubber composition and is incorporated in a moulded rubber boot or shoe. The boot or shoe may be made by a latex dipping process or by placing the coated midsole on a partially vulcanized outsole in a sole mould and then moulding an upper to the sole assembly. The midsole may be held in position during moulding by protrusions moulded on the inner face of the outsole.
