Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a well comprising a vertical body 11 and radial perforated collector tubes such as 22, the tubes are connected to conduits such as 61 housing pumps such as 71. Flow through the ends of the tubes into the interior of the body is controlled by means of valves such as 32 and the interior is emptied by a pump 52. The tubes may be filled with particles of plastics, metal or charcoal but in a preferred construction a preformed filter comprising an outer layer of sand and an inner layer of gravel is supported within each tube by an inner perforated tube. Some of the conduits may be continued downwardly to form deep wells, and pairs of conduits may be linked at the top or bottom of the body. The arrangement permits the blending in the interior of the body of water from the tubes with river water, and also permits the injection of hot waste water or river water into the earth surrounding the body for supply to the tubes after storage and cooling, or storage. The river water supply may be connected to one of the conduits for direct blending with the water in the conduit. Chemicals may be fed to clean one tube whilst the other tubes function as water collectors.
