Abstract

1,112,792. Continuous kilns; drying bricks. F. E. KIMBLE. 31 Jan., 1966, No. 4186/66. Headings F4B and F4G. A continuous brick kiln comprises concentric cylindrical walls 3 defining an annular chamber 4 having a spiral rollerway conveyer transferring brick from an upper loading station to a lower discharging station successively through preheating and drying, firing, and cooling zones. In the central firing zone, burner parts 16 are formed between the flights of rollers 11, each burner 39 being supplied with fuel from a manifold 38 through a valve 40. Most of the rollers 11 are freely rotatable in openings 19 and comprise refractory tubes mounted on bearings on hollow stub shafts 21 welded to straps 23 mounted on brackets 26 welded to walls 3. At equal intervals driven rollers 11 are mounted on shafts 31 journalled at 32 and driven by sprockets 33 through a chain 34 and motor 36. Cooling air enters the rollers through stubshafts 21, and enters the furnace through the gaps between rollers 11 and linings 25 for openings 19, or through the discharge opening. The kiln walls are lined with blocks 8 of 80% grog and 20% aluminous cement, said blocks being held by bolts 41 and nuts 42. The rollers 11 are spaced to provide a passage for air and waste gases upwardly to the drying and preheating zone.
